The 2026 Swim Cap Series: A Tribute to Modernization

At Beat-the-Base III, your race begins with a tribute to the evolving capabilities of the Canadian Armed Forces. As you head to the pool deck, each athlete in your lane will be issued a specific, high-quality silicone swim cap to wear during the heat and keep as a collector's item. These four caps represent the "Seniority of Service" order within the CAF, with each design highlighting a critical leap in our national defense modernization.

The Navy Cap (The Senior Service)

The first swimmer in each lane will don the Black and Gold cap representing the Royal Canadian Navy. This design features the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship, the newest addition to our fleet. These vessels represent a significant investment in Canadian sovereignty, specifically designed to navigate the challenging conditions of the Arctic and provide a persistent presence in our northern waters.

The Army Cap

The second swimmer in each lane will wear the Olive Drab cap, representing the Canadian Army. This design features a Canadian Army soldier equipped with the Canadian Modular Assault Rifle (CMAR). Manufactured by Colt Canada in Kitchener, Ontario, the CMAR is the long-awaited replacement for the C7/C8 family of weapons. This modern, modular system represents a major leap in lethality and ergonomics for the soldier on the ground. With a contract in place and production moving forward, the first units of the CMAR are expected to begin delivery to the Canadian Army in 2026, ensuring our troops are equipped with world-class gear for the modern battlespace.

2

The Air Force Cap

The third swimmer will carry the Sky Blue cap of the Royal Canadian Air Force. This design showcases the CC-330 Husky (A330), which will be stationed right here in Edmonton. The graphic depicts the Husky performing a strategic mid-air refuel for two CF-18 Hornets, symbolizing the enhanced global reach and endurance this new fleet provides to our air operations.

3

The Joint Cap (CJFC)

The final swimmer in the lane will wear the Purple cap, a color symbolizing the "Joint" environment where members from all three elements serve together under one mission. This cap is a tribute to Canadian Joint Forces Command (CJFC)—a newly established command led by LGen Molstad, who serves as the CAF Triathlon Patron. The design features a UAV, representing the cutting-edge development of unmanned systems currently being employed across the Navy, Army, and Air Force under the CJFC umbrella.
